Adams Philharmonic Dresden Classic timpani are the latest addition to the world famous Adams timpani product line.  Combining the timeless sound of vintage Dresden style drums with modern production quality and consistency, these drums offer a more quick response and tone projection that you hear immediately along with a fundamental presence and fullness unlike any other.
 
Hammered copper bowls are supported by a specially designed high strength suspension ring and cast steel struts that decrease the pressure on the frame and help prevent any flex or changes in the shape of the frame or bowl.  
 
A traditional, simple and strong frame design reduces the strain of transport without sacrificing tone or stability.  
 
The Dresden style pedal mechanism features a traditional ratchet and clutch foot operated design and a patent pending folded split rocker arm eliminating the need for a transfer bar. This traditional ratchet style Dresden pedal mechanism provides players a familiar feel of natural head resistance.  The traditional ratchet pedal mechanism without spring assist gives those players used to older Dresden-style drums  a familiar feel when tuning (contrast with the Philharmonic Light Duff Model that uses spring assist).

Definitions:
 
American :   Arranging the drums in the typical "American " style of high drum on the right, and low drum on the left  (also sometimes referred to as "keyboard" or "piano"  style for the same "low-on-the-left" reasons).   This is important when ordering Dresden style drums as the tuning pedal and gauges are placed not in the front center position -but to the  right or left of the bowl.   For instance: a 20" Amercian Dresden timpano will have the pedal and gauge on the left of the bowl, nearest the  center of the set-up when placed on the farthest right-hand position.

German:   Arranging the drums in the typical "German" style of high drum on the left, and low drum on the  right.  This is the  traditional set-up configuration of  European or "Germanic"  orchestral timpani playing heritage. The  advantages with the German configuration is that it places the typical dominant (or "5th"  in harmonic structure) on  a right-handed players stronger  side,   naturally enhancing the musical character of the classic "five -one"  chord resolution.     As with the American configuartion,  it is important to note  a players preference for "german" configuration when ordering Dresden style drums as the tuning pedal and gauges are placed not in the front center position -but to the  right or left of the bowl.   For instance: a 20" German Dresden timpano will have the pedal and gauge on the right of the bowl, nearest the  center of the set-up when placed on the farthest left-hand position.
