Flute Rental FAQ
What Does a Flute Rental Involve?
Renting a flute is an excellent option for beginners and students who want to explore the instrument without committing to a full purchase. Our flute rental program includes maintenance and repair services, ensuring the instrument stays in good condition. Renting allows new players to test their interests and progress before deciding on a long-term investment.
What is the Difference Between a Student and a Professional Flute?
Beginner flutes are designed to be easy to play, durable, and affordable. They are usually made from nickel or silver-plated materials and have simpler key mechanisms. Most beginners start with a C-foot joint, with the lowest possible note being C1. The tone holes are usually closed or plugged, meaning the entire hole is covered when the key is pressed. On the other hand, intermediate and professional flutes are hand-crafted from higher-quality materials such as sterling silver, solid silver, or gold and offer superior sound quality and advanced features. Intermediate and professional flutes typically have a B-foot joint, which adds length and weight to the flute in addition to extending the range to low B. They usually have open holes, meaning that when a key is pressed, the hole is not fully covered and allows the player to include advanced technics.
How Much Does a Flute Cost?
The cost of a beginner flute varies depending on its quality and intended use. More and more instrument-shaped objects (called ISOs) are being sold online for unrealistically low prices. While the price might seem attractive, they won't play in tune, can't be repaired, and, most importantly, discourage beginners from practicing hard and don't understand why they aren't improving. Because of this, the dropout rate of students with ISOs is extremely high. Reputable beginner flutes generally range from $900 to $1,500, with used models being less.
What are the Different Types of Flutes?
Flutes are some of the oldest instruments known to man. Flutes play an important part in many cultures, including Native American, Chinese, and Irish cultures, just to name a few. These culturally significant flutes are usually made of native woods or materials like bamboo. The modern flutes played in bands today have been around for 200 years, and there are four primary members: The piccolo, the concert flute, the alto flute, and the bass flute. Each type of flute serves a different musical purpose and offers a unique playing experience.
What is Rent-to-Own?
Rent-to-own flute programs provide a flexible option for those who want to start with a rental but may consider purchasing the instrument in the future. This program allows rental payments to be applied toward the eventual purchase price, making it easier to transition from renting to owning. Rent-to-own options are ideal for players who want to invest in a quality flute over time while managing their budget effectively.
