Elkhorn Middle School

Dear EMS Percussionists and Parents/Guardians,

One of the many things that makes the percussion section unique is that there are multiple instruments that require several different types of sticks and mallets to play them. If you were to purchase these all at once it would be very expensive, so Elkhorn Public Schools has a layered system that will allow you to purchase a few new things each year as your skills improve and we start working on more advanced concepts. By gradually building your mallet collection during your three years of middle school, you will be fully prepared to play every instrument in the section by the time you reach high school!

This helps the directors to know that everything was delivered correctly, and allows us to teach the students proper assembly and care from the beginning.

6th grade and beginner percussionists are required to have the following items: 

• Percussion kit, which includes a mallet instrument and drum pad with stands.
• The listed sticks and mallets.
• The "Simple Steps to Successful Beginning Percussion" book.
• 7th and 8th grade percussionists need to order only the sticks and mallets listed for their grade level.

Supplies need to be ordered by August 16th , and will be delivered to EMS by August 23rd. Thank you.
