This drum was recommended to me by a former teacher. We both shared a love of big, full sounding, and biting snare drums. She had mentioned that this was the only non-vintage drum to ever impress her. I have to say, she knows her snares. This drum has that certain open spectrum of sound unique to one ply snares that ply drums just can't get, but it also lacks reinforcement hoops, which really opens up the throttle on this drum. It can whisper just fine, but it can roar all day regardless of how you tune it. I highly recoomend a skyntone batter and a Renaissance snare side tuned with the bottom head a 5th lower than the top. Tune it high and it bites as well as barks, but if you tune it low, you can get a decent field drum sound from it.
