The first Celesta was patented and built by Mustel. The patent called for a "bell-like tone in which hammers set in motion by the keys strike tune steel bars resting on a wooden resonator." Today, Schiedmayer Celesta is the only company producing Celestas consistent with this original patent. Read more to see Mustel's original patent. |

The Celesta was first invented in 1886 by Auguste Mustel in Paris. The Mustel company has now dissolved, but Schiedmayer GmbH has been continuously making celestas since 1890. |
